2:30Ottoman Caliph: What Happened After 1924?
“He embodied all the complexity and contradictions of the late Ottoman experience.”
"For hours, five-year-old Hind Rajab pleaded for help. Rescue never came."
One story from this report made headlines around the world. Five-and-a-half-year-old Hind was trapped in a car with her family. Gunfire was going on all around them. For hours she stayed on the phone with an emergency dispatcher asking for help. She kept describing her injuries. She kept describing the gunfire happening around her. An ambulance was sent to save her. But it never reached her. Twelve days later, the bodies were found. The commission says there are reasonable grounds to believe that both Hind's family and the rescue team were deliberately targeted. But Hind Rajab's story was not an isolated incident. The report documents many such cases. Children who were trying to reach a safe place were shot. Schools, hospitals and shelter homes were targeted in attacks. Thousands of children lost their hands, their legs, or were left permanently disabled. And among those who survived, many are living, or will go on living, with lifelong psychological trauma.
