The Judge Who Challenged Israel

"If we don't act on the evidence against Israel, we can't redeem ourselves." — Justice S. Muralidhar

Full Transcript

So who exactly is this person putting before the United Nations such a brutal truth about the Gaza genocide? For Justice Muralidhar, this is nothing new. In India he has been among the judges who delivered several very important verdicts. He was part of the bench that convicted Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, even though decades had passed since those riots. He also reopened the Hashimpura massacre case, and the policemen against whom no action had been taken for years were finally punished. And in February 2020, when his court asked the police, during the Delhi riots, why no action had been taken over inflammatory speeches, he was transferred. Today, three years after his retirement, that same judge is telling the UN Human Rights Council what he found in Gaza. The commission has released a hundred-page report documenting violations and crimes committed by Israel against Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, from the seventh of October 2023 until the thirty-first of March 2026. In his closing remarks he told the Council: even if the bombs and guns fall silent in Gaza and the West Bank, Palestinian children will not simply recover overnight. But Justice Muralidhar's remarks don't end there. In a recent interview given to the Indian Express, he said: if we don't act on the evidence against Israel, we can't redeem ourselves.
